Improve your cell-phone and Wi-Fi signal with Open Signal Maps Widget
Open Signal Maps Widget lets you check your Android signal strength, and displays the cell towers and Wi-Fi routers on a map. This Android widget supports GSM, CDMA, 4G, 3G and 2G connections. Open Signal Maps Widget will show an arrow which indicates the direction of the tower you’re connected to, so you can improve your signal reception by implementing a simple tactic; walk in the direction of your signal.
If you click on the ‘i’ button on the Overview tab, this Android widget will show you different signal stats such as; Network, Connection, Type, Strength, Tower longitude and latitude and Distance from the tower.
Open Signal Maps Widget allows you to choose map or radar views by going to the Map tab and tapping on Menu > Layers (Map, Satellite or Radar). The map and radar views show multiple cell towers: the tower you are actively connected to, and also other surrounding towers that deal with data from your network. As this Android widget doesn’t have all the towers in its database, your Android device may be working perfectly and yet it may still not be able to locate your tower.
Are there other ways to improve your signal?
Moving in the direction of the cell tower won’t always help due to local interference effects, but it’s worth a shot. If you want to improve your reception at your office, house or in your vehicle you should consider getting a cellular repeater. These can be placed in areas where the signal is strong; e.g. on the roof. They can amplify and repeat the signal.
